The Nesbitt/Nisbet Society is made up of those descended from, married to, or simply interested in this ancient Scottish family and its numerous overseas branches. Membership is open to all who support the aims of the Society. It aims to promote kinship between members, particularly through its gatherings, and to assist and encourage historical and genealogical research, particularly through its quarterly newsletter and its publications. The Society also supports relevant causes, such as the restoration of the tomb of Frances Nisbet, wife of Admiral Nelson, and the restoration of Gunsgreen House, Eynmouth, a fine Adam mansion built for John Nisbet.
Membership of the British Isles branch New members are always welcome: the only qualification is some interest in Nesbitt/Nisbets! An active interest in genealogy is certainly not necessary, but the worldwide links of the Society can be very helpful to those researching family history. Annual membership of the UK branch entitles you to:
- receive copies of the Society’s quarterly newsletter
- place queries in the newsletter
- have notice of the Society’s gatherings
- receive a free booklet from time to time (usually each year)
- buy N/N publications direct from the Society at well-below bookshop prices
- receive any help we can give in N/N family research
Subscription rates Current annual subscription (which covers a family at one address) is £12.00, or £16.00 for members in continental Europe or elsewhere. These rates continue to hold good for 2007.
Please make cheques payable to the Nesbitt/Nisbet Society. Membership applications and queries should be sent to the Society’s treasurer:
Mr Peter Nisbet, 7 Stafford Place, Weston-super-Mare BS23 2QZ
Geographical coverage In general, residents of the British Isles, Continental Europe and the Commonwealth (excluding Australasia) tend to join the UK branch.
