Arms granted on 2 March 1995 to the father of the current Chief. Robert Anthony Ellis Nesbitt of that Ilk died on 15 August 2000.

LETTERS PATENT CONFIRMING THE ARMS OF ROBERT ANTHONY ELLIS NESBITT OF THAT ILK TO ALL AND SUNDRY whom These Presents Do or May Concern, WE Sir Malcolm Rognvald Innes of Edingight, Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Writer to Her Majesty’s Signet, Lord Lyon King of Arms, send Greeting: WHEREAS, ROBERT ANTHONY ELLIS NESBlTT OF THAT ILK, (formerly Robert Anthony Ellis Nesbitt), Representer of the Baronial House of Nisbet of West Nisbet, Chief of the Name and Arms of Nesbitt (or Nisbet), Holder of the Degree of Bachelor of Arts of the University of Oxford, Chartered Accountant, residing at Upper Roundhurst Farm , Roundhurst, Haslemere, in the County of Surrey, having by Petition unto Us of date 14 November 1993 Shewn; THAT he, the Petitioner, born London 14 July 1935, is the only son of Robert Malleson Nesbitt, Solicitor, Liveryman of the Grocers Company, and his wife (married Toronto, On- tario, Canada 4 February 1932) Mary Porter, daughter of Frank Porter Wood; THAT the Petitioner’s said father (born London 15 September 1900) was the only son of Robert Chancellor Nesbitt, Solicitor, Member of Par- liament for the Chislehurst Division of Kent, Freeman of the Drapers Com- pany, and his wife (married 31 August 1895) Lilian Mary, daughter of Edward Ellis, of Shadingfield Hall in the County of Suffolk, THAT the Petitioner’s said grandfather (born 17 November 1868) was the eldest son of Robert Henry Nesbitt, and his wife Emma, daughter of George Chancel- lor, of Chessington Hall in the County of Surrey; THAT the said Robert Henry Nesbitt was the son of Pearce Rogers Nesbitt, of Honiton in the County of Devon, Doctor of Medicine of the University of Edinburgh, Freeman of the Drapers Company, and his second wife Arabella, daughter of Robert Smith, of Maidstone in the County of Kent, Doctor of Medicine; THAT the said Pearce Rogers Nesbitt was the son of Samuel Nesbitt (or Nisbett), Freeman of the Drapers Company, sometime Secretary of the Bahamas Islands, and his wife (married Hackney 29 December 1790) Penelope, daughter of William Rogers, of Helston in the County of Com- wall; THAT the said Samuel Nisbett was the son of Samuel Nisbett, Free- man of the Drapers Company, and his wife Susannah, daughter of Captain Purkiss of the Royal Navy; THAT the said Samuel Nisbett was the son of Thomas Nisbett, Freeman of the Drapers Company, and his second wife (Marriage licence 1700) Priscilla, daughter of James Rawlins; THAT the said Thomas Nisbett (baptised St. Martins, York 16 June 1662) of Gracechurch Street in the City of London, was the son of Thomas Nisbett, merchant in York, and his wife Isabell, daughter of John Cholmeley in Braham; THAT the said Thomas Nisbett (aged 44 in 1665) was the son of the Reverend Philip Nisbet, Rector of St. Martins, York, and his wife Elizabeth Hoyle, in Slaithwaite, Halifax; THAT the said Reverend Philip Nisbet (who was grand-uncle of Alexander Nisbet, the author of Nisbet’s Heraldry) was the second but eldest son of whom male issue survive of Sir Philip Nisbet 6f that Ilk, and his wife (marriage contract 11 March 1581/2) Elizabeth, daughter of John Haldane of Gleneagles, Perthshire; THAT the family of Nisbet of that Ilk had borne Ensigns Armorial long anterior to the passing of the Act of Parliament 1672 cap.47 THAT the said Armorial Bearings of Nisbet of that Ilk were matriculated in the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland (Volume 30, folio 73) of date 4 October 1933 by the Petitioner’s said grandfather Robert Chancellor Nesbitt with the difference of a bordure Or; THAT for aught yet seen the Petitioner is now heir male of the body of the said Sir Philip Nisbet of that Ilk and heir male of the House of Nisbet of that Ilk, AND the Petitioner having prayed that (primo) he might be OFFICIALLY RECOGNISED in the Name, Style and Title of ROBERT ANTHONY ELLIS NESBITT OF THAT ILK, Chief of the Name and Arms of Nesbitt (or Nisbet) and (secundo) that the aforesaid Ensigns Armorial might be MAINTAINED, RATIFIED, and CONFIRMED unto him and to his heirs KNOW YE THEREFORE that Conform to our Warrant of date 1 June 1994 We have for aught yet seen (primo) OFFICIALLY RECOGNISED as We Do by These Presents OFFICIALLY RECOGNISE the Petitioner in the Name, Style and Title of ROBERT ANTHONY ELLIS NESBITT OF THAT ILK, Representer of the Baronial House of Nisbet of West Nisbet, Chief of the Name and Arms of Nesbitt (or Nisbet), and (secundo) MAINTAINED, RATIFIED and CONFIRMED as We Do by These Presents MAINTAIN, RATIFY and CONFIRM unto the Petitioner and his heirs with such due and congruent differences as may hereafter be severally matriculated for them, the follow- ing Ensigns Armorial, as depicted upon the margin hereof, and matriculated of even date with These Presents upon the 1st page of the 78th Volume of Our Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland, videlicet; - Argent, three boars’ heads erased Sable, armed Argent and langued Gules. Above the Shield which is ensigned of a chapeau Azure furred Ermine (as Representer of the Baronial House of Nisbet of West Nisbet) is placed a helmet befitting his degree with a Mantling Gules doubled Argent, and on a Wreath of the Liveries Argent and Sable, is set for Crest a boar passant Sable, armed Argent and langued Gules, and in an Escrol over the same this Motto “I BYD IT”; and for Supporters two boars Sable rampant, armed Argent and langued Gules on a com- partment Vert embellished with acorns Proper; and for his Badge a boar passant Sable, armed Argent and langued Gules, which Badge appears on a Standard of four yards in length Argent with split ends having Azure, a St. Andrew’s Cross in the hoist, with this Motto “I BYD IT” in letters Sable; and for his Pinsel four feet by two feet six inches, Argent displaying upon a wreath of the Liveries Argent and Sable the aforesaid Crest within a strap Sable, buckled and embellished Or, inscribed with this Motto “I BYD IT” in letters of the Field, all within a circlet Gules hbriated Or, bearing his title ‘NESBITT OF THAT ILK’ in letters also of the Field, the same ensigned of a chapeau Azure furred Ermine, and in the fly an Escrol Sable surmounting a sprig of oak fructed Proper bearing in letters of the Field this slogan “A NISBET”; by demonstration of which Ensigns Armorial he and his successors in the same are, amongst all Nobles and in all Places of Honour, to be taken, numbered, accounted and received as Nobles in the Noblesse of Scotland; IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF We have subscribed These Presents and the Seal of Our Office is affixed hereto at Edinburgh, this (*)... in the (*)...
